A cautionary tale

A cautionary tale for one and all. This great matt black Ribble came in because of a skipping chain that’s cropped up – just before a trip to the Tour of Flanders this weekend. That turned out to be a bent link in the chain. While going over the bike the bottom bracket didn’t sound too good. The bike has been used all through the winter so maybe this wasn’t surprising. When I took the cranks out to have a look – one of the bearings came out on the crankshaft!! That’s not sup...posed to happen! It looked like a war zone in there as the 1st pair of pictures show. Luckily, I had the right bearings in stock so we could get it sorted out. The question is though – how did the water and muck get in in the first place? OK – anything that gets into the frame will work its way down to the BB it’s the lowest part of the bike. In discussion, the owner confessed – JET WASHER!!!!!!!! Don’t do it people – especially on a road bike with push fit bearings.
Happy travels!!
